Dear Friend of Hungarian-American Scouting,

Did you now, that we, Boston Hungarians have a thriving scout troop, the Bodnar Gabor Scout Troop, #2? Would you like to know more about them and have an evening of Hungarian Dance and Food? Then consider the Hungarian Ball of 2004 benefiting our local Bodnar Gabor Hungarian Scout Troop #2!

Our troop formed over two years ago and in May 2003, was accepted as a full member of the Hungarian Scout Association in Ex-terris, the worldwide association of scouts of Hungarian-origin living abroad. While still young, we have a vivacious schedule of learning about Nature and all things in it related to Hungarian literature, history and culture. We had a wonderful obstacle course (akadályverseny) around the life of count Rákóczi, and a very successful canoe-trip on the Sudbury River , with about 40 people in 12 boats.  Our troop is sending scouts to the summer camp in Filmore , NY , indeed one of our talented scouts, has won this summer’s scout competition in his age group there.

Now we set our eyes on establishing/renewing the tradition of Scout’s Ball. Some of you may recall that some 25 years ago, we had Hungarian Scout’s Ball in Boston already. Now with new faces and a new generation of enthusiastic children and leaders, here we are again! The scouts of today started off as babies and toddlers attending “Kuckó”, the Hungarian children’s playgroup that started its meetings in the early 90-ies. This group, growing up, formed the nucleus of Boskola, the Bartok Béla Hungarian School of Boston , which this Fall has opened its 4^th school-year in Lexington . The scouts are the logical extension of the pedagogic work, which now reaches our children from ages 3 to 14.

This fundraising Gala is to serve as a link between our young scouts, the pride of today’s Hungarian-American Community and our supporters. This evening is a Thanks Note for those who assisted the troop in its early years and a further way to continue to support this worthwhile cause. The proceeds of this evening will go towards establishing supplies for the scout troops and to help defray costs of camping and traveling to US-wide Hungarian scouting events.

We are looking for patrons and benefactors who would be willing to support this evening in April 2004 in a prestigious Boston venue. We are planning a Dinner with Music for Listening and Dancing, a Cserkész Tombola (Scout’s Door prizes) and a Silent Auction, as well as an evening program that includes Live Hungarian Ethnic Music.

Magyar Bál 2004    

Kedves Cserkész Támogatónk,

Tudta-e, hogy a bostoni magyar közösségen belül egy magyar cserkészcsapat is müködik, a 2-es számú, Bodnár Gábor csapat? Ha szeretne többet megtudni rólunk egy kellemes, zenés magyaros vacsora-esten, kérjük, látogasson el a 2004-es Cserkész Bálra!

Csapatunkat, mely két esztendeje alakult, 2003 májusában vette fel a határokon túli magyar származású cserkészeket tömöritö Külföldi Magyar CserkészSzövetség teljes jogú tagjainak sorába. A nemrég alakult csapat máris élénk munkát végez, s a természet felfedezésén kívül a cserkészek megismerik a magyar történelem, irodalom és kultúra eseményeit. Tavasszal remek akadályversenyt szerveztünk Rákóczi  fejedelem életének eseményeit felidézve, összel pedig a Sudbury folyón 12 kenuban közel 40-en vettek részt az evezös kiránduláson. Cserkészeink eljutottak a Filmore cserkészpark táboraiba is, mi több, egyik cserkészfiúnk korosztályos versenyt is nyert ott ezen a nyáron.

Szeretnénk újra inditani a Cserkészbálok hagyományát! Páran talán még emlékeznek, hogy úgy 25 éve már volt Bostonban Magyar Cserkész Bál. Nos, most újra itt vagyunk, új arcokkal és egy új generációnyi lelkes gyerekkel és cserkészvezetövel! A ma kiscserkészei, mint totyogó babák kezdték a 90-es évek elején az akkori bostoni magyar gyerek-játszoházban a Kuckóban. Ahogy cseperedtek, változtak az igények, s ebböl nött ki a Bartók Béla bostoni magyar iskola, vagy röviden Boskola, mely most kezdte negyedik tanévét Lexingtonban. Ennek a gondolatnak a logikus következö állomása volt a cserkészet létrehivása, mellyel így már a 3 és 14 év közötti összes korosztályt felölelö pedagógiai munka folyhat.

Ez az alapitványi gálaest összekötö kapocs fiatal cserkészeink, a helyi magyar közösség büszkeségei, és támogatóik között. Köszönetet fejez ki eddigi munkánk támogatóinak s egyben lehetöséget nyújt a további értékes munka elösegítésére. Az est bevételét a csapat felszerelésének bövítésére, valamint a táborozások és az országos magyar cserkészeseményeken való részvétel költségeinek fedezésére forditjuk majd.

Ezúton keresünk olyan pártfogókat és védnököket, akik a 2004-es bostoni Cserkész Bál támogatására vállalkoznak. A vacsorával egybekötött bálon tánczenét, cserkésztombolat és néma árverest is tartunk majd, s terveink között élö magyar népzene is szerepel. Kérjük elöre jegyezze be naptárjába az áprilisi cserkészbált, s ha ideje, tehetsége, anyagi helyzete engedi, jelezze támogató szándékát nekünk. Szivesen fogadunk az aukcióra szánt, jó állapotú ajándék- vagy cserkész-tárgyakat is.
