Brief History of the Hungarian Society
Hungarian
immigrants have resided in New England since the 18th
century. One hundred years on, in 1852, the great Hungarian
statesman, Lajos Kossuth, reported meeting fellow patriots
during his state visit to America. As recently as the
turn of the 20th century, only a small number of Hungarians
lived in Boston: emigration waves brought few settlers
